From Uncertainty to Confidence: Anannya Saikia’s Transformative Internship Journey in Clinical Psychology

Anannya Saikia Mynd

I started this internship at a time where I was feeling very uncertain about what the future holds for me. I still remember walking into this experience, feeling equal parts nervous and unsure, wondering if I was ready for the responsibility that comes with truly listening to someone. Somewhere along the way, that hesitation turned into curiosity, and then into confidence.

From taking case histories and conducting assessments, to holding one-on-one sessions with clients, I found myself growing not just as a student of psychology, but as a person.

I got to work with children and adults, across incredibly different backgrounds and experiences. I designed sessions for patients in a rehabilitation centre. There were presentations, workshops, case reports, team discussions- each one adding a new layer to how I think, how I communicate, and how I show up for people.
Through the experience of sitting across from a real person, hearing their story unfold in their own words, and realizing that sometimes, I also learnt that just being present is the most powerful thing you can offer.
But the most important thing I’m leaving with isn’t a skill or a certificate. It’s the quiet confidence that I can do this, that I belong in this space.

To Mythili ma’am and my supervisors and everyone who guided me through this, thank you. You didn’t just teach me psychology. You showed me what it looks like to practice it with care.
